For Alaska Wildlife Trooper Zanebono Fusca, it's just another summer in Anchorage until a slew of inexplicable fatal bear attacks sets the city reeling. As far as Zane is concerned, the timing couldn't be worse. He's besieged with his own demons, coping with personal loss and an identity crisis that clutches him worse than a grizzly's pickaxe-sized fangs. Ten years before, he hoped Alaska would bring him a sense of his manhood. Now the "last frontier" could put him in an early grave.
Zane's role to protect Alaska's teeming wildlife gets even more tangled when handsome 25-year-old Joshua Gaffner arrives seeking the details of his uncle's gruesome death. But Alaskan officials have few answers. Against his better judgment, Zane takes Joshua deep into Anchorage's far-flung back country - populated with eccentric recluses and ego-driven ecologists - in search of the truth. As the bizarre attacks increase, Zane and Josh continue to push for clues to crack the mystery. Finally Zane unravels a shocking discovery that makes the pieces fall into place. The trouble is Josh stands in the perfect position to become the next victim.

A good combination of mystery and romance. The setting in Alaska gives it a different feel from most mysteries, and the protagonist is not a professional detective, but someone who takes extra interest in the case partly for personal reasons-and then, predictably enough, it gets REALLY personal. The romance subplot comes naturally enough within the story, not just the usual "let's throw in a love interest" trope. It is an M/M romance between grown adults, one of whom is fairly comfortable in his own skin and the other is still figuring out his sexual preferences, but beyond that both of them have to decide where they belong and what they want to do with their lives. There's mystery to solve, tragedy and loss to overcome, and all the while, mortal danger is just around the corner...
The mystery itself gives plenty of clues to anyone paying attention (although there is a good reason for the protagonist to be slow on the uptake), and so the Big Reveal is not particularly shocking, but the extra-thrilling final confrontation is still a nail-biter, and the ending is satisfying on every level.
If you are looking for something different from your usual fare, this novel will not disappoint.

Alaska Hunt (Audible Audio Edition) Shelter Somerset John Solo Dreamspinner Press LLC Books Reviews
I loved this book. The author did a terrific job of keeping the plot interesting and believable; I both loved and hated the characters! GOOD JOB with both writing and editing. It was really difficult to put this book down. I look forward to reading other texts of this author!
this is a great story which will keep you on the edge of your seat. the author knows alot about alaska and makes it real. i couldn't give it five stars because the chracters are cold and the two main chracters show little if any affection for each other. zane claims he is not gay even after living with a guy. are you kidding me?
With the sounds of rage, tumult, and anger. Being directed by a madman. Lust, a lot of intrigue and a surprising twist toward the end help pull this awesome novel together. Really enjoyable read.
This is a romantic M/M thriller, not just the typical romance-with-tension. The story is dominant, and the relationships are part of the story, but not the main focus. I thought I knew what to expect a couple of times, but while I did anticipate some of the plot, I did not expect all of it. Not a book to read lightly, and I enjoyed it.
I just indulged and finished Alaska Hunt, a gay romantic murder-mystery thriller with a zoological twist. Again, as with other Shelter Somerset novels, I could hardly put it down. Gripping, grizzly, gorgeous fun. I have to admit that I'd solved some of the crimes long before the protagonist did, but that just further intensified the suspense. I love the way it turns political correctness on its head. The personal and sexual relationships are intriguing and not always predictable. And I found the sometimes over-the-top anthropomorphism delightfully refreshing.
I bought Alaska Hunt because it was written by Shelter Somerset. It didn't disappoint. Somerset weaved a good thriller with bears as the main antagonist. What was making a normally docile creature act the way it was?. In the end it was way more rational and way more entertaining than the movie "Grizzly" that came out eons ago riding on the "Jaws" phenomenon. The tenseness was layered right though a satisfying conclusion. Somerset has written six books. Thus far I have read five and I haven't been disappointed yet.
I really enjoyed Alaska Hunt! An inventive adventure mystery involving mysterious bear attacks in Alaska, and a budding romance between a reluctantly bisexual Alaska Ranger and a relative of a victim of one of the attacks. The love scenes are tasteful and erotic, without being too graphic (hint everyone should be able to appreciate it!)
