It was interesting to read how Croft got his start and it was quite the adventure. His grandfather was a magician though Croft didn't know this. It was kept quite secret. But Everson found himself in Grandpa's attic office even though the door was locked. He was investigating everything his 13 year old mind could grasp when he got caught and kicked out after a short exchange. It was never mentioned again. After the old man's death, Everson is still investigating as an adult. He goes to Europe to dig into more background. This is when things get real interesting. Threats, strange animals in the forest, lies from supposed friends. I liked finding out how it all started. Everson Croft is an intriguing person, more so now that I know a bit about his past.Product details

Good lead in to the series
...some good background
I love Brad Magnarella's Prof Croft series and seeing how he ended up sharing his space with a demon was awesome. This is a short read but still has the same incredible perspective as the first. Croft is a hilariously witty character with a sarcastic tone of voice. Love it.
I read this after "Demon Moon", I wish I would have read it before. Reading "Demon Moon" first, I was a little lost at the beginning, but got caught up in the story quickly.
I had hoped this one would cover that information but... Actually, I have additional questions after reading this novella. It was a nice beginning to the series.
At first you start with the main character as a child trying to learn about his grandfather. The character grows and you learn more and more about him until he is a fully fleshed out character and you are eager to follow his adventures. This book leaves you in suspense and you can't wait for the next book.
I read this first although that is not the suggested reading order. I liked this enough to want to read the series. Main character is interesting....reminds me of Wesley from the series Angel. Well written without significant grammatical errors.
